Rath Administration Building
The Rath Administration Building, was constructed in 1936 by Rath Meat Packing Company. Originally designed by an internal architect the 75,000 sq ft structure consisting of three floors of about 25,000 sq feet each. Abandoned in the mid 80's when Rath filed bankruptcy the building sat vacant for more than 20 years and was the subject of extensive vandalism and theft. In association with the City of Waterloo the building has been earmarked for redevelopment by Mako Waterloo Corporation. Redevelopment agreements were approved by the City Council in January of 2008. Originally scheduled to be delivered in 2008 to Mako Waterloo redevelopment was deferred until the summer of 2009 pending removal of all environmentally hazardous material such as asbestos by the City of Waterloo. This historic property is suitable for a variety of adaptive reuse applications such as call center, office, data center, light manufacturing and more.
